Persian Rugs
Definitions of Persian Rugs:
Warps; the vertical threads(wool,cotton or silk) upon which the knots are tide.
Wefts; the horizontal threads woven over and under the warp threads.These are beaten
down and tightly hold the knots in place.
Knots; open -ended knots which together form the pile of the rug. Two types of knot are used. the senneh or Persian knot and the Ghiordes or Turkish knot.
Fringe; the ends of the warps which protrude at the two ends of the rug.
Kelim border; a short section at one or both ends of certain rugs where a number of weft threads are first passed over and under the warp threads before the first two of knots are tied. This forms a skirt or kelim border.
Selvedges(or overcasting): the two secured outer edges of the rug. This is usually done by winding a weft thread a couple of times round the last warp thread.
Field: the major central panel which shows the major pattern of the rug.
Main border: the relatively broad section running round the outer edge of the rug.
Minor borders of border guards: narrow bands (two or more) running round the outer edge of the rug and also between the field and the main border.

persian carpet looms

LOOMS
This week we discuss different kinds of looms on which rugs are made. There are two basic types of looms; vertical and horizontal. The vertical loom is permanent and is used in towns and villages. The horizontal loom is used by the nomadic tribes because it can easily taken apart and transported on the back of pack animals when the tribes move on.
Vertical looms are solidly constructed because they will be used to make many rugs and so are expected to last for a long time. This type of loom consists of two vertical posts connected by two strong cross beams,resulting in a very sturdy frame, The cross beams are adjustable so that the weaving of different sizes of rug is possible.
A workshop loom is a narrow bench as high as twenty feet.Facing the loom is a narrow bench on which the weavers sit side by side.As the rug progresses,either this bench,or the warp may be slackened so that the completed part of the rug can be wound around the bottom beam and the weavers can then work at a convenient level.
Persian carpets are the most enjoyable aspects of home furniture and surrounding,and at the same time the most convenient and secure investment.
Paradise Persian carpet is exclusively deals with genuine complete hand-made Persian rugs in all sizes,design,patterns with the certificate of authenticity and competitive price. The attached picture showing the two types of looms;
